Baroque visits Lorri

(Note : Lorri lost her battle with cancer on Sept 28, 2006. Rest in peace Lorri! You were one of the greatest fighters I've ever known. You are still in inspiration to me!)

Tammy Breckenridge, Deb Messner, and I decided that it would be a fun treat for Lorri Savage if we took my newest miniature foal for a visit.

Lorri is battling stage IV breast cancer. But, since Lorri is a horse owner, herself, we hoped this might be a nice little surprise for her.

Lorri's horse, Star, is a little harder to bring to her since she is a full grown horse. Baroque, on the other hand, is about like transporting a large dog! He's only 3 months old and he needed the trailering experience, as well.

I was hoping he would be a gentleman and he was - he was very good with Lorri.

Lorri sat out on the front steps for a LONG time playing with Baroque. It was nice to see her burst out in laughter as she petted and played with the little guy. He was very good and tried to get in her lap a couple of times.
When Lorri scooped him up for a kiss, I thought "Oh goodness, Baroque, don't bite her!". Baroque is quite a mouthy little colt but he was sweet and gave several kisses. You can see his upper lip poked out meeting Lorri. Since he is going to his first show this weekend and Lorri knew he'd have to be clipped up, she volunteered to get her clippers out of her car and see what she could do with him. He's very new to all this stuff but Lorri was very patient and let him feel/hear the clippers on his muzzle and ears. He let her get a few swipes inside and she got some horsey hair on her but she loved it.

Baroque's mom, Blossom, spent most of the time grazing in the Savage's front lawn (and didn't mind it one bit!) but she did visit Lorri as well. After a nice, long visit, we thought we'd see how the minis liked the lake.
Blossom didn't care for it too much and wanted to spend most of her timeon shore but the baby, once he understood what it was, would go out over his head by himself and swim. Then he'd swim to shore, rear and run and then come back in for more. After the swim, we loaded the horses back up and had a pizza party with Lorri. She had taken a power nap while we were down at the dock and was ready to socialize again when we got back to the house. It was a GREAT day!
